Boiler Grant v Green Homes Grant

The Government has created the Green Homes Grant, aimed at making houses more efficient, to help the country to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Is the Green Homes Grant replacing the free boilers grant?

No, the Green Homes Grant does not cover boilers. Instead, it leaves that to the Energy Companies Obligation (ECO) or as we like to call it the Free Boilers Grant.

The Green Homes Grant, which ends in March 2021, allows low-income households to claim up to £10,000 to get insulation or low-carbon heating systems installed. Other households can claim up to £5,000 to cover two thirds of the cost of the installations.

Can I claim a Free Boiler Grant and Green Homes Grant?

You cannot claim both grants to carry out the same work e.g. loft insulation. However, as the Green Homes Grant does not cover boilers, you could claim for a free boiler under the ECO scheme and loft insulation under the Green Homes Grant for example.

Which grant should I claim?

We would recommend claiming both the Free Boiler and Green Home Grants if you are eligible. The free boiler and underfloor insulation our Gas Safe Registered engineers will install for you under the Boiler Grant, combined with low carbon heating measures under the Green Homes Grant will boost your home’s efficiency.

Crucially this will significantly lower your heating bills without any cost to you!
